Serendipity. Just seeing my thwirl swirling on my screen when I saw Jefflebow there. Well, out of curiosity, because these guys at edtechtalk are always around new stuff, I decided to click on the link Jeff suggested to test mebeam. Bang! I was there with him, John Schinker, Dave Cormier and Jen Madrell. What a great pleasure to see all those little video thumbnails. I laughed to myself because I had no idea they would all be there. It’s just like getting in the wrong room when people are into i

Exhausted from their tag team effort last week, John & Dave take the week off, but fortunately, Jennifer Wagner and Alvin Trusty step in at the last minute to co-host with Jen & Jeff. Items covered include copyright and fair use, tools for the geographically challenged, student kindles, plenty of Myplick references, and lots more.

Webcast Academy Miracle Workers

Sun, 08/10/2008 - 07:25
At the beginning of the summer, I set a personal and professional goal that I would learn how to be a webcaster like the experts on the ‘Women of WoW; or ‘Teachers Teaching Teachers’ shows. I enrolled in the webcast academy led by the wonderful leaders Jeff Lebow and Doug Symington. Initially, I had some difficulty with the first assignments but I eventually was successful after following the directions at the website. The second assignment was not so easy. The second assignment was to record

EdTechTalk#81 - The Mega-Connectivism Course (Part #1) As you know, George Siemens and I are planning to offer a course on Connectivism at the University of Manitoba this fall. The course looks like it will be interesting, which we conclude from the fact that 1200 people have so far expressed interest. So last night George and I and a few other people chatted online at Ed Tech Talk about how we were approaching the course and what the implications are. My best eye-opening moment came when I re

K12Online 2007 Reflection on WOW 2.0 Presentation

Sun, 07/27/2008 - 17:29
Webcasting for Educators: Expanding the Conversation is the title for the K12Online 2007 presentation created by Women of the Web 2.0 (or WOW2) hosts Cheryl Oakes,Vicki Davis, Jen Wagner and Sharon Peters. Each of them presented different aspects of their show, WOW2,  EdTech Talk and the umbrella organization called WorldBridges which was founded by Jeff Lebow and Dave Cormier. So, all of that for me was quite informational as I have listened to these webcasts for awhile now, but haven’t put al

I want educational technology to be boring.

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 18:09
A few weeks ago on an episode of the excellent podcast EdTechWeekly, Jeff Lebow, one of the co-hosts, expressed how he is still a little amazed by wireless networking. It started me thinking about how much technological stuff in my everyday life I take for granted these days - and how that’s a good thing. Then, in a post which referenced my recent issues with a certain VLE provider, Will Richardson linked to a presentation by Clay Shirky. For those of you who haven’t heard of Shirky, he’s the

My Open Education Inspirations

Mon, 06/16/2008 - 14:58
Hi, all! My name is Jennifer Maddrell and I’ve signed on to help aggregate and share open education news. I decided to break the ice with a post about my open education inspirations. Since taking David Wiley’s Introduction to Open Education course last year and after attending the 2007 Open Education Conference in Logan, Utah, I have had some time to mull over this notion of an open education movement. I’ve found that open education means a lot of different things to people. Some folks focus o
